Lovingly titled "4 days and 4 ways to die" this expedition explored the possibility serious technical mountain travel combined with packrafting descent. We climbed Granite peak, descended untracked wilderness to the source of the Stillwater river, and made the first descent of a harrowing gorge. We continued paddling until the river reached civilization, and then biked back to our cars.
Highlights included:
Technical ice climbing in Inov-8 shoes and 10 pt. (no front-point) Kahtoola crampons
Cutting up our 8 mm rope to create a throw rope for the river
Using 95 gram harnesses for technical rock-climbing (not made for this!)
Carrying no sleeping bags, only an alcohol stove, and emergency bottomless ski shelters for tents
4 close calls - climbing the couloir, descending the mountain, descending the river, and a comical and painful bike crash.
